Hooray, I’m making my big jump. I’m moving. My dream State has been calling me forever and now I’m answering. I don’t have all the moving parts together and I sure don’t have all of the answers, but I’m trusting that with this leap a net shall appear.
What I do know for sure is that no one is going to give you your dream; you have to go get it. And when your spirit reminds you over and over and over again that you have someplace to be or that you have something to do, honor it. We’re good about putting things off until tomorrow, but I’ll remind you again that you don’t have a contract guaranteeing your tomorrows. 40 is right around the corner. Make a another turn and there’s 50. I’m told that after that, if you stand still the decades start running right past you if you’re not careful. I’ll never again be the woman who puts off chasing her dream.
Living full today – that’s what matters most.
I also believe that you should live in a place you truly love. And no, you aren’t too old and it’s not too late. Don’t believe that big lie that some people try to tell. Most of all, steer clear from the noise in your head. It’s the negative chitter-chatter that’ll keep you paralyzed and you’ll be too scared to do anything.
I’ve spent thousands of hours on jobs that have made me miserable, in relationships that didn’t serve me, and in situations that crushed my soul: never again. I’m grateful the job I’m leaving was not such a place, but I know far too many people who are emotionally dead inside because of a job they hate.
You’re reading this because you’re one of the people who needs his or her heart to sing and do what makes you come alive.
My alma mater is Hampton University. I’ll love Hampton for as long as I live. In our school song there’s a sweet line that says, “Oh Hampton we never can make thee song, except as our lives do the singing.” That “except as our lives do the singing” has stayed with me. Now, at 53, I promise my life will do do far more singing than it has ever done before.
I now continue to build my life on purpose and I’m not entertaining anything other than a “Yes.”
With great anticipation, I make this big beautiful jump.
